The crisp fall air means an extra blanket at night, cozy fires in the evening, shorter days and getting ready for another winter. Our active sailing season may be coming to an end, but lots of planning and dreaming is in store with many of us already thinking about next year. This is my last Commodore Newsletter, and the final newsletter you will receive this year. Make time to take advantage of the lovely fall weather and come to the Club for a few cookouts before we close up for the winter. Itâs been a great year, thank you to all who have helped make it another remarkable season at PYC.
Upcoming Social Events
We have 2 upcoming social events and we hope you will join us. Decommissioning will be Sunday, October 20 at 2pm at PYC. This is a change from our original date so please mark the change on your calendar. Bring $5, a dish to share and come help us celebrate the end of another great season. Annual Meeting and Party will take place Saturday, November 9 at 6pm at Essex Corinthian Yacht Club. Keep an eye out for invitation via email later this month with more information.
House and Grounds
The final work party of the year is scheduled for Saturday, November 9. Please join us as we pull the docks, clean the clubhouse, and secure all Pettipaug property for the winter. All privately owned boats must be removed by Thanksgiving.
Hurricane season is upon us. Please keep an eye on the weather and any potential wind or storm surge warnings we may receive this fall. All members are responsible for securing their own boats at the Club in the event of a storm; please read the PYC Storm Preparation Checklist on the last page of our yearbook.
Looking to sell a boat? Or buy one? Members have boats for sale ads on the bulletin board next to the Commodoreâs Room door, stop by and check it out if you are in the market for a boat.
If you see anything out of place or damaged at the Club, please report it to Jim Carey: jciaus(a)yahoo.com<mailto:jciaus@yahoo.com>. We appreciate any heads up we can get to help us address issues at the Club.
Racing
October brings opportunities for racing over three weekends. If you have an eligible boat, consider joining the Tri-Club Series starting October 5. Each weekend is a different race sponsored by one of the three Essex yacht clubs. Additionally, we have a dinghy handicap race at Pettipaug on Saturday, October 19.

We need you! Please consider helping out with one or more of these projects:

* We are looking for someone to represent PYC on the organizing committee for this regatta, sponsored by four Essex yacht clubs, to be held in May 2020. Fundraising will be important for the success of this event, as well as rallying sailors. Special Thanks
This special thanks section is dedicated to all the wonderful members that have helped me over the last two years in my role as Commodore to keep our club up and running. Itâs been gratifying to be a part of a place where everywhere I look I see the results of another good deed done by another volunteer member, and where I never feel alone in any task that needs doing. It has truly been my pleasure to serve alongside our members who make our club a treasure on the river.
