[PYC-News] CT River - DEEP Water Advisory - Sewage Spill
by Amy Pullin 08 Aug '20

08 Aug '20
Sorry to get this out so late - lack of power and wifi. Be advised there was a large sewage spill into the CT River in Massachusetts on the 5th. DEEP has published an advisory to stay out of the river for 48 hours. DEEP’s advisory is currently for north of Middletown. Being that PYC is South of Middletown, it would be prudent to add a day or two to that advisory - better to play it safe. . Please take this advisory into account in your summer adventures for the next couple days. https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/connecticut-river-affected-by-sew…

[PYC-News] Tropical Storm Warning and August Commodore's Update
by Amy Pullin 03 Aug '20

03 Aug '20
[cid:9645eeb2-71c3-4a7f-b691-03168ac2322f] Commodore’s Update August 2020 Tropical Storm Warning for Southern New England A Tropical Storm warning is in effect for Southern New England. Storm Isaias is expected to hit coastal Connecticut tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon and night. Based on current tracking, isolated gusts of up to 70 mph are predicted for our area along with an initial storm surge of 1-3’. Storm surge could increase on the CT River later in the week if VT and NH get slammed with rain. If predictions are accurate, a 1-3 foot surge at high tide will likely flood the road and low spots where boats are stored. 50-70 mph winds can cause an unsecure boat to take flight. Please secure or remove your boat, trailer and personal property from the club. If your vessel remains on club grounds be sure it is tied down. Consider un-stepping your mast. Members are liable for damages caused by their property to club or member-owned property. A storm Preparation Checklist can be found on page 44 of the yearbook. Usage & Access Guidelines for PYC Club Property<https://www.pettipaug.com/PDFs/PYC20%20Covid-19%20Guidelines-v1.pdf> The club guidelines still need to be followed. Many members are, but some are not. Please, in good Corinthian Spirit, follow the rules and be respectful of fellow club members. These guidelines are based on CT state law and what the BOG deems is in the best interest of the Club. Please be aware It was brought to our attention a couple of boats moored in the Meadows (the moorings off the club) have been boarded while the owners were away, resulting in boat damage and party garbage left on the boats. If you see something that doesn't seem right, please consider calling the police who can do a drive by and investigate. Please be careful when moving trailers through the yard. Go slow, look for obstacles, don’t cut corners. Club Update A number of members have pitched in to help maintain the club and start on some improvement projects. Thank you - Doreen Joslow, Sandy Sanstrom, Jim Carey, Art Robbins, Bob Muggleston and Mischa Van Berkel for mowing and weedwhacking the grounds. A small crew of volunteers has started work on the club ramp railing and north lockers. The plan is to freshen these two areas with a good sanding and coat of stain. Once these two areas are complete, we will be looking for more volunteer help as we move on to the south lockers. Thank you - Kathryn Ryan, Priscilla Robinson, Vic Hoehnebart, John Becker, Mary Risseeuw, Belle Becker, Doreen Joslow, Dave Wemmet, Dave Courant, Lisa Fasulo and The Dahl Family. PSA Looking for Old Sails PSA is looking for the donation of old sails. If you have any, we would be happy to pick them up. Please email commodore(a)pettipaug.org for a pick up. Thank you. Stay safe and heathy, Amy Gordon Pullin Commodore Please do not reply directly to this email, any questions should be directed to commodore(a)pettipaug.org.
