[Image preview] Dear PYC Members, Thank you all for attending and rolling up your sleeves during the work party last Saturday. Rain and Shine it was and we accomplished a ton of tasks. Many of you moved from one checklist to another. Again, we want to thank each and all of the more than 40 members who joined us this weekend. Also many thanks to everyone who helped with launching the docks earlier this month. Your help this early in the year, made it possible for Pettipaug to continue to support regional High School sailing. Club yard open for member boats With the docks in the water, the yard is available for our boats again. Members, you are welcome to bring your boats. We kindly ask you to place them in the area that is designated for the regarding boat type. Furthermore, each boat needs to have a boat sticker that can be requested with Art Robbins via a.l.robbins(a)comcast.net<mailto:a.l.robbins@comcast.net>. In this case, they are not. The Spring Work Party actually is FUN. It is a great way to reconnect with members and meet new members after the winter hibernation. There is a lot of camaraderie, much gets done and the progress is visible. Many hands make light work, so come on down for any period of time you are available. Local clubs - Essex Yacht Club, Essex Corinthian, Frostbite, Duck Island and Pettipaug have teamed up with Sails Up 4 Cancer to support cancer patients and their families, cancer research and new treatments. A one design regatta will be held on the lower Connecticut River just outside of Essex on Saturday, April 30th. Three of the same type boat are required to make up a class and get a start. There are 4 classes to date - Etchells, Ideal 18, JY15 and Lasers. Let's have some Pettipaug representation. MC Scows, Blue Jays, Sunfish please consider racing. The Skippers' Meeting is at 9:30 and First Warning 12:00. ALL are welcome at the Post Race Party, even if you didn't sail. The party is at Essex Yacht from 4:00 - 8:00pm. If you aren't able to sail or attend the party, you can still support the cause by making a donation. Info on racing, party and donations can be found at 2022 Sails Up 4 Cancer Connecticut River One-Design Regatta<https://www.essexcorinthian.org/2022ctrodr.html?utm_source=OnShore+Events%2…> Spring 2022 Commodores Race and Commissioning, May 14th Please mark your calendars. Commodore Race The Commodore Race will be held on Saturday, May 14th. This is the first club race of the season, traditionally held on the same day as commissioning. It is a distance race scored using the Portsmouth handicap. All small sailboats are welcome. The course is typically 3 - 4 miles. The race can take anywhere between 1 - 3 hours based on your boat, skill and obviously the wind. All Pettipaug sailors are welcome. Commissioning The Commissioning Ceremony is a time-honored tradition which celebrates the opening of the new sailing season at the club. This year the ceremony will start at 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 14th.

Dear Pettipaug members, Sadly, some members have received emails, which may seem to come from Pettipaug board members (including myself) with a request to purchase and send giftcards. Please do not do this! This is a scam! Please stay alert and be suspicious when you are asked to send money, giftcards or any other items of value. [Image preview] Dear Pettipaug members, Happy spring! I really looked forward to writing this April version of the Commodore's Update. It means that we can announce that the docks were launched! It is always a great moment, which "Marks and Sparks" the start of the season. Thank you very much for the volunteers who helped with this important task. It is the time of the year that all the hard work during the winter months is coming together. Please take some time to read this update and to inform yourself about the upcoming club activities. Mischa Club yard open for member boats as of April 9 With the docks in the water, the yard becomes available for our boats again. As of next weekend, members are welcome to bring their boats. We kindly ask you to place your boats in the area that is designated for the regarding type of boat. Furthermore, each boat needs to have a boat sticker that can be requested via vicecommodore(a)pettipaug.org. Given the limited space available, the maximum allowed boat length at Pettipaug is 20ft. Work party on April 9 Next week, on Saturday April 9 from 9am till noon, we will have our traditional spring work party. There will be plenty of jobs available. However, if you have some specific ideas, please send a direct message to pastcommodore(a)pettipaug.org. Make sure that you wear your working cloths and don't forget to bring some of your tools that can be used for the usual activities in the yard. SailsUp4Cancer Pettipaug is partnering with the other Essex Yacht Clubs on the organization of the Connecticut River One-Design Regatta to benefit SailsUp4Cancer. This regatta, followed by a post-race party, will be held on Saturday April 30. Each fleet with 5 or more boats will get its own start. One-design racing at its best. [PYC-News]Announcement new Pettipaug Treasurer

[Image preview] Dear Pettipaug members, It is with great pleasure that I announce, on behalf of the Boards of Pettipaug Yacht Club and Pettipaug Sailing Academy, that Peter Charbonnier has accepted the position of Treasurer. During the next few weeks, Marian Carson and Peter will be working on the orderly handover of the Treasurer tasks and responsibilities. After the more than 30 years that Marian has fulfilled the Treasurer role, she has indicated that she and her husband Larry are planning to leave Connecticut and move closer to their family in North Carolina. It is needless to say that we are sad that Marian will leave us, but simultaneously we are extremely grateful for everything that she has done for the club and the Academy. Obviously, in the near future, we will take the opportunity to express our gratitude in an appropriate way. Peter Charbonnier is a long term Pettipaug member and is well known in our community. Among other things, Peter has founded and run various businesses on Main Street, Essex and has been practicing law in downtown Chester for more than 20 years. Through these ventures, he has gained extensive experience with multiple aspects of the duties required for the Treasury position. Furthermore, Peter is an active sailor and enjoys racing his JY15 as well as driving his motorboats on the river. Please join me in welcoming Peter as our new Treasurer.
