Commodore's Update - January 2023
Dear Pettipaug members,
By means of this first update of the new year, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all members a happy, healthy and prosperous 2023 with lots of enjoyment on and around the water.
After a well-deserved winter break, we all started up our regular routines again. The first meetings are held and plans are being made for the upcoming season. Thank you for taking a few minutes to read the points below.
Membership letter and fees
With the new year started, you should have received your PYC Membership Renewal letter by mail. A kind request to all members is to return the completed form and to pay your fees in due time. Like previous years, it is possible to pay by means of a check as well as electronically via PayPal. Anything to make it easy for everyone.
In the membership letter you are asked if you are willing to donate your time by joining a committee and/or by taking a position. Even if you are already a committee member, please fill in and return the form so that we can ensure that the roster is up-to-date.
December storm
On December 23, a heavy winter storm battered the US. Thankfully, the winds and temperatures were not as extreme here in Connecticut as they were elsewhere. However, the storm surge in combination with full-moon high tide, resulted that the Pettipaug yard was completely flooded several times - probably by a foot or 2. This caused loose objects to float around. Many thanks to the members who stepped up and helped on (a freezing cold) Christmas eve, by cleaning up the yard and securing any remaining loose items.
During the storm, one of our floating docks broke loose and was found back earlier this week. Despite what many people would think, it was not found downstream, but north of our club on Selden Island. The dock has been recovered and is back at our club without any further damage. Special thanks to Sandy Sanstrom, Art Robbins and Dave Wemett for locating and recovering the dock!!!
Pettipaug Sailing Academy
Registration for the 2022 summer program of Pettipaug Sailing Academy will be opened next month. For more information about the program and registration, please keep an eye on the website www.pettipaug.com<http://www.pettipaug.com>.
Laser parts
If one of your new year's resolutions is to clean up your basement, please keep your eyes open for Laser parts. The Pettipaug Sailing Academy is planning to revive Laser sailing this season. Therefore, we could use some good quality Laser Radial Parts. In particular, if you have an upgraded vang system, Radial bottom mast section or good quality Radial sail, PSA is looking forward to your donation or bargain sale. Please reach out to psachair(a)pettipaug.org<mailto:psachair@pettipaug.org> for more info.
