Hello All - due to high tides and heavy rains the club grounds have experienced flooding.Â Kayaks and small sailboats have been lifted off their racks and dollies, some have floated off into the tall grass. All members our encouraged to remove their boats as soon as possible.Â We have our first work party on the 10th of November, 8am start, please come down and lend a hand in closing up the club for the year.Â Thanks,Jim Carey

[PYC-News] Volunteers need for The Loop at PYC on Sunday, November 4

As you may know PYC's rowing contingent will be running The Loop Rowing Regatta again 2 weeks from today on November 4th. Our PYC members are asked to provide the on water safety team. We need 7-8 power boats with crews of 2. Our safety job starts about 7:00 am as the shells start being launched, with some of our crew monitoring around the launch area, some going up river to get on station and checking the course for debris or anchored or fishing boats in the way. The rowing group could also use more help at the club and on the dock as well. The race starts at 8:00 am. The last rower is back within 1.5 hours, then there is a party and the awards. All of it ends by around 10:00 am, and there are always great pies for all afterwards. If you are interested in joining us to help run the race on Sunday, November 4, please RSVP to John Kennedy at kdesign(a)snet.net so he may coordinate our efforts. As always, thank you for your time. Weâve enjoyed another wonderful season at Pettipaug â thanks to many helping hands the boat yard and club house are looking great, the junior sailing program honed the sailing skills of another generation of sailors, races were enthusiastically attended and offered a variety of classes of boats, and we all enjoyed the beauty of the River from our beautiful club. We hosted weddings and family reunions and welcomed many new members. I look forward to seeing you at the Decommissioning on October 13th and at the Annual Banquet on November 10th. This is my last newsletter of the season â see you in the Spring! Racing Opportunities in October Charles Birch Memorial Race: October 13 This regatta is open to cruising boats, 20â or over sailing under a PHRF handicap formula. Boats will be divided into two classes, racing and cruising, and first signal is at 11am. This casual affair is a great opportunity to meet new members, find out about opportunities at the club, and catch up with old friends. All members are kindly asked to bring a potluck dish to share, $5 cover charge, and PYC will provide the beverages and the atmosphere. Come join us. Annual Meeting: November 10 6:00 pm All members are encouraged to attend our annual meeting held at the Essex Corinthian Yacht Club. Board members will give a recap of this yearâs activities, and we hope to have a slideshow highlighting the best of PYC 2018. We will also present our annual awards and recognize the accomplishments of PYC sailors and rowers this year. If you havenât been before, please consider joining us for this festive end of the season party. Invitations with RSVP information will arrive via email later this month. House and Grounds Fall is a great season for enjoying your boats, but please remember to make plans to remove your boat from Pettipaug before Thanksgiving. This policy applies to all boats, including kayaks. Only PYC owned boats may be stored at the club for the winter. We have work parties scheduled for early November to remove the docks and winterize the club. These efforts are all done by our faithful volunteers, and we would love to see even more members join us. This is a case where many hands truly do make for lighter work. There are jobs for everyone, no matter how talented you may be or how much time you have to give. Every contribution makes a difference, small and large. [PYC-News] PYC Storm Policy Reminder

Yesterday's strong winds and rains are a good reminder of how unpredictable weather can be this time of year. Please remember that members themselves are responsible for safely securing their property at the club, as well as for any damage caused by their property if it is not properly secured. As of this afternoon, we had not had any flood waters on the grounds at PYC, but we are only in the first full week of fall so now would be a good time to make sure your property is properly secured at the club. And while I hope we all have time to enjoy many more beautiful days on the river this fall, it's not too early for a reminder that all personal boats, including all kayaks, will need to be removed from the club prior to Thanksgiving. The kids are back to school and you may be thinking of pumpkin spice and apple picking. But there are several more weeks of summer â and the weather and water are fine. September is a wonderful month for boating and enjoying our club â river traffic is lighter, the sunrise and sunsets are spectacular and the swallows have started dancing on the horizon each evening. Come for a sail, paddle or to grill out in the evenings. Hope to see you there! Racing Opportunities in September September 15 One Design Racing at PYC. Join us for an afternoon of one design racing and cookout afterwards. We will supply hamburgers and hot dogs, bring your own beverages and a dish to share. We have picnic tables and a grill near the flagpole which are dedicated for members use during events at the club. Events are posted on our calendar on our website so you may check club availability anytime. [PYC-News] Weekend Attendant Position Open at PYC

We are looking for a weekend attendant at PYC starting August 18 and going through October 13. Summer hours are Saturday and Sunday 10-5, hours during the school year are Saturday and Sunday 11-4. Duties include light cleaning of the clubhouse and assisting members as needed with their boats. Our attendant must be at least 16 years old and have a CT boaters license. Please pass this information along to anyone you think may be interested, the attendant does not need to be a club member.
