September (it�s still summer!) is an amazing time of year; the water is warm and inviting, the days are sunny and bright, and the evenings are cool. House and Grounds 

Hurricane season is upon us. Please keep an eye on the weather and any potential wind or storm surge warnings we may receive this fall. All members are responsible for securing their own boats at the Club in the event of a storm, please read the PYC Storm Preparation Checklist on the last page of our yearbook. 

Attendants will be on duty at the club for the first two weekends in September from 12-4PM. 

Looking to sell a boat? Or buy one?  Members have boats for sale ads on the bulletin board next to the Commodore�s Room door, stop by and check it out if you are in the market for a boat. 

If you see anything out of place or damaged at the Club, please report it to Jim Carey: jciaus@yahoo.com. We appreciate any heads up we can get to help us address issues at the Club. 

 

Racing  

August was a very busy month for racing at PYC.  Our Blue Jay fleet wrapped up their summer series and our junior sailors finished their season with a home regatta and more than 50 competitors.  The Cats and Gaffers hosted their annual race, and 3 fleets, BJ, Laser and Scows, were represented at our One Design Regatta.   

The next One Design Regatta is scheduled for Sunday, September 15.  All fleets are welcome to join us.  And don�t forget to mark your calendar for our end of year races, The Charles Birch Memorial Race and the Robin Starr Race, both on October 19.

Ships Store 

Order your PYC fleece vests and pullovers by September 15.  The attached PDF�s have design options, sizing charts and the order form that must be mailed with payment to Stacia Libby by September 15.  This is a limited time offer, so order now to have these stylish gifts this holiday season.  Delivery expected in mid-October. 

 

 

Special Thanks 

Over Labor Day Weekend, the Dexheimer Family joined club officers to christen two optis for our junior sailing program, Tootsie and Buddie. Also, special thanks to Dave Wemett and Paul Mikulak for putting a new roof on our Opti Shed and Sail Locker.  Our club is looking better thanks to many members who have helped improve our facilities this year. 

 

Volunteer Opportunities 

We need you! Please consider helping out with one or more of these projects: 

  • Leukemia Cup Regatta Representative 

  • We are looking for someone to represent PYC on the organizing committee for this regatta, sponsored by four Essex yacht clubs, to be held in May 2020. Fundraising will be important for the success of this event, as well as rallying sailors. Please let me know if you would like to join this team,  commodore@pettipaug.org  

  • Race Committee 

  • We are recruiting more members for our race committee team that helps run our weekend races. This is a fun way to participate and help out with our racing project. If you would like more information or to join us, please a contact Race Committee Chair Liz Horan at erhoran@att..net

  • Repair work for Sailing Academy 

  • If you are handy with repairs, consider helping us on one of ongoing projects.  We are looking for help to repair dollies for the sailing academy.
