Happy Labor Day PYC~
The August Commodore’s Comments was a work in progress with the intent to complete and send
on Sunday, the last day of August and wish all a good Labor Day. However, I inadvertently hit the send
button! So what you have already received is a prelude as to what is to come. However, this lovingly
written note to me from Lou Annino Jr. is a standalone . When I finished reading this, I had a better
understanding of why I and so many others have chosen to dedicate so much of their time and
enthusiasm towards PYC. When I asked members for written memories for the 75th Anniversary I
received cherished childhood and youthful stories about days at PSA. Friday afternoon racing , the
Sunday Series , the end of PSA season “the dance” and so much more. Thank you Lou for sharing
your dad with us.

LABOR DAY
Priscilla,
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond back to you. It has been a very hectic summer.
I do thank you for you very kind words about Dad. He was a very special man who touched many people.
My Dad loved Pettipaug. I believe he remained a member well beyond his active participation with the club.
Dad made sure all his seven children had the opportunity to experience the art of sailing that the academy
gave to so many young men and women. Dad devoted a good deal of his volunteer time in those years to
PYC serving as an officer and on various committees. While I am sure he enjoyed the success in competitive
sailing that the members of the club often achieved, I am quite certain he valued the friends and love of the
simply sailing even more.
About a month before my father’s passing, I had the opportunity to bring him down to Pettipaug. It was a
slow afternoon with no one around. We walk up on the clubhouse deck and Dad leaned on the railing facing
the river and Joshua Rock. He took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. He then looked over at me and
proceeded to tell “remember when” stories. These included things like the Blue Jay Nationals, PJSA
Graduations and the Sunday Series. He laughed while telling a few stories about old friends with names
like Walter Rowe, Rick Harrison, Don Doyle, Hadley Williams, Searle Welling, and many others.
Yes, Dad loved Pettipaug and I am glad that he was able to be back one last time before passing this May.
On behalf of my entire family, I thank the wonderful people at Pettipaug for remembering Lou Annino Sr. as
a loyal member of this fine organization.
Lou Annino Jr.

of many volunteers for organizing and hosting this successful
and wonderfully “windy” Junior Sailing Regatta.
2025 PJSA
CONGRATULATIONS to Director Amy Pullin the SI
and
JI’s for conducting class as usual in the unbearable heat
of this summer. The instructors and kids were so engaged in
the teaching and learning of skills, they did not want to leave
at the end of the day. Bravo to 22 Optis on the starting line for
6 Risseeuw Regatta starts without a flip or a fumble amongst
them!
2025 CONGRATULATIONS
to Daniel Charbonnier (skipper) and
Jonah Mossisey (crew) on winning the Junior Invitational Regatta
sponsored and held at Essex Yacht Club and Essex Corinthian Yacht

achievement!
Much to do about everything Summer of 2025 to be sent over this
