[cid:image001.png@01D9BE67.AAC052A0] Pettipaug - The upcoming weekend - July 2023 Dear Pettipaug members, We are on the verge of one of the most exiting weekends at our club this season. There will be tons of sailing and our annual belated Midsummer Party. Please find more details in this message below. Pettipaug Paul Risseeuw Junior Regatta On Saturday July 29, we will be hosting the annual Pettipaug Paul Risseeuw Junior Regatta. Over 80 sailors of the entire ECSA (Eastern CT Sailing Association) will be racing on 3 different courses in 4 different boats, namely C420, ILCA6, O'Pen Skiff and Optimists. This means that on Saturday the club availability will be very limited. However, if you are looking for a fun activity on Saturday, there will be plenty of opportunities for volunteer work. If you are available for Race Committee work on the water or if you would like to help as a grill master during the post racing BBQ, please send an email to psachair@pettipaug.org<mailto:psachair@pettipaug.org>. If you just want to come over and watch the action, you are also more than welcome. The top junior sailors of the region will be sailing at our club, so a great opportunity to see some good stuff on the river. Midsummer Handicap Race and Party After the dust has settled down on Sunday, it is time for the belated Midsummer Handicap Race and Midsummer Party. Please find attached the invite, Notice Of Race and Sailing Instructions. For the race, the Skippers meeting will be at noon at the PYC Clubhouse and the first start will be at 1pm. All types of sailboats are encouraged and welcome to participate. This is a distance race scored using the Portsmouth handicap. The course is typically 3 - 4 miles long. Depending on the conditions, boats will normally sail around a buoy north of Essex Harbor, north of the club and back to the club. The definite course will be confirmed during the skippers meeting. The race can take anywhere between 1 - 3 hours based on your boat type and skill. There will be a separate start for the MC Scows, but the entire fleet will be scored as one. The Midsummer Party will follow after racing at 5pm. This year's theme will be "Ship Wreck"!! Our Cruise Ship capsizes off Pettipaug Yacht Club. Passengers and crew were RESCUED on Saturday July 15th, when a luxury cruise ship capsized in the channel on the Connecticut River off Hamburg Cove, tossing passengers and crew into the mild summer waters. One and all were rescued and brought to a feast and celebration on the PYC deck! *Prizes for Best "Shipwreck Attire" *Bedraggled: pajamas, gowns, tux, towels etc. *Open Bar *Bring a dish or dessert to share *$5 per person I hope it will be a great weekend with good weather, good racing and fantastic spirit at Pettipaug. Best regards, Mischa van Berkel, Commodore
