[PYC-News] Pettipaug Yacht Club Commodore's Update April
[cid:2c8080af-a653-4df7-a4fc-cf06e4a934eb] Welcome Spring! Itâs great to see people at the Club enjoying the warmer weather and longer days. Soon weâll be back on the water, enjoying evening cookouts with our friends and neighbors and basking in beautiful sunsets. We still have a few more weeks before the commissioning, with planning and preparations underway for the season. This is a volunteer Club, and we need your help to make it successful. Read on for lots of important information and details about volunteer opportunities. Membership Membership renewals were sent out in February. Thank you to all who have returned their forms and payments. If you did not receive your renewal form, please contact Dave Wemett at membership@pettipaug.org<mailto:membership@pettipaug.org> to get your renewal form or if you have any questions. If you paid by Paypal we still need your form mailed back to ensure your membership information is up to date in our files. Thank you for your prompt attention to your membership renewals. House and Grounds Thanks to all who helped clean up the Club last month. The boat yard will be open May 1 for members to bring their boats to the Club. Please see an attendant on the weekends, starting May 11, to register your boat and get a sticker when you bring your boat down. Any questions should be directed to Jim Carey at jciaus@yahoo.com. April 1st was the deadline to make sure moorings stored at the Club were ready for inspection for 2019. Please make sure your mooring is ready. Connecticut River Leukemia Cup 2019: May 4 and 5 Join us for this exciting two-day race, which is once again being held on the Connecticut River, on May 4 and 5. Join our fellow sailors in Essex for great racing and a great cause. All small sailboat fleets are welcome. We are hoping to exceed last year in participation in boats and money raised. All small boat sailors are welcome to join. Donât want to sail? Volunteer Opportunities We have several opportunities for those that would like to help this spring or over the summer. * Powerboat Maintenance * We are looking for help maintaining our fleet of powerboats this summer. We have a small dedicated crew who help make sure our powerboats are running well. If you would like to join them and spend a little bit of time messing about in boats this summer, please let me know: commodore@pettipaug.org * Race Committee * We are recruiting more members for our race committee and if you are interested in joining the team that helps run our weekend races, please a contact me at commodore@pettipaug.org * Handy with a Saw? * Amy Pullin is looking for someone or a team to take on the construction of 12-14 small sawhorses this spring. Construction would be mostly from 2x4âs and the wood could be delivered to your home. These need to be completed by May 1 to store our fleet of 420âs for the junior sailing program for the summer. Blue Jay Race Series 2019 If you own your own BJ, you are welcome to join the Blue Jay Race Series 2019. Races will take place weeknights during the summer, culminating with final regatta and party on Sunday, September 1. Weeknight race dates are Tuesdays May 28, June 25, July 23, and August 20.
