Club Update A number of members have taken advantage of storing their boats in the yard and accessing the CT River in these hot summer days. For the most part, it seems Usage & Access Guidelines for PYC Club Property<https://www.pettipaug.com/PDFs/PYC20%20Covid-19%20Guidelines-v1.pdf> are being followed. These guidelines are based on CT state law and what the BOG deems is in the best interest of the Club. Please review and abide by these guidelines. Remember to be respectful of other memberâs space and wear masks if you canât socially distance on the grounds. Lock Your Car/Secure Your Valuables Unfortunately, a memberâs car was recently broken into while parked at Pettipaug. Cash and a credit card were stolen. This theft happened while the member was on the grounds. Police were notified and a suspect was identified. The suspect had no ties to Pettipaug. While this is not a common occurrence, we have seen this in years past. Please lock your cars, secure your valuables (including boat gear) and keep an eye out for non-members. PYC Boat Stickers Membersâ boats stored on PYC Club Property must have a PYC sticker affixed to the stern. If your boat does not have a sticker, contact Rear Commodore, Corey Manero, at rearcommodore(a)pettipaug.org to obtain one. Include your postal address in your email. No Jet Skis Just a reminder, jet skis are not to be launched, docked or stored at the club (p. 11 of the PYC yearbook). PSA/PYC Staff Available to Work A number of PYC members have contacted our PSA/PYC Instructors and Attendants for various odd jobs. Thank you. They have appreciated the employment opportunities and are still available. Please consider contacting them with anything that comes to mind at the office or on the home front. A list with some of their skills and talents is attached. They all are smart, reliable and hard working. PSA Looking for Old Sails PSA is looking for the donation of old sails. [PYC-News] PYC Update and Usage & Access Guidelines for PYC Club Property

[cid:d2c12ab9-6a89-476b-b608-2f46d27c1da6] Dear PYC Members, After significant discussion at the monthly meeting, the Board of Directors determined that due to stringent Covid related restrictions the clubhouse, deck and bathrooms (including the grills and picnic tables) need to remain closed until further notice. Members who would like to store their boats on PYC Club Property may do so effective Monday, June 22, 2020. Please remember boats must be under 21â and the Club is not responsible or liable for the condition, maintenance or policing of member-owned boats. The yard will be tight this summer because the North and South docks will be in the yard. So please, only bring your boat if you plan to use it. Boats are not to be âstoredâ on Club property. Membersâ boats stored on PYC Club Property must have a PYC sticker affixed to the stern. If your boat does not have a sticker, contact Rear Commodore, Corey Manero, at rearcommodore(a)pettipaug.org to obtain one. Include your postal address in your email. As a club run by volunteers, we cannot monitor, nor be responsible for member behaviors when on the premises. Out of concern for fellow members and per the State of CT mandates, the PYC Board asks that the Usage & Access Guidelines for PYC Club Property below be consistently respected and followed when on Club grounds. Use of Club Property is at each memberâs own risk. We ask that members please be patient, understanding, and flexible in these new times as we continue to make updates and guideline modifications based on new information from the State of CT, OSHA, the US Sailing Association, the CDC and our insurance provider. Protecting the health and safety of all involved, and following all the required protocols, is our highest priority. Members are using the Club Property at their own risk. Thank you for your attention to these important safety guidelines. COVID-19 Usage & Access Guidelines for PYC Club Property Stay Home. If you feel sick, are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, or have come into contact with someone who has COVID-19, please do not come to the Club. Use at Your Own Risk. Members who choose to visit Club grounds during this time should be aware of the potential risks. Know that you come to the Club on your own accord and know the risk you are taking by coming to a public area. Members Only. We ask that during these times of social distancing and limited gatherings that you refrain from bringing guests to the Club (unless guests are going straight your moored boat. Face Covering. All members (children and adults) must carry a face covering with them while on Club grounds. A face covering must be worn if you are within 6 feet of any other individual outside of your household. Six Foot (6â) Social Distance. Maintain the recommended 6 ft + social distance with anyone not in the same household. Sanitize Your Hands Often. BYO alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Hoist and High Touch Areas. If you use the hoist or any high touch area, BYO disinfectant and wipe down all surfaces that you touch before and after use. Children of Members. Parents are responsible to ensure their children respect these COVID-19 Guidelines, as well as the PYC Rules. Children under 12, and those that cannot follow these guidelines independently, require adult supervision at the Club. Usage and Access Guidelines. All guidelines remain in effect wherever you are on the property; including the ramp, the docks, the Tiki Hut, tying up your boat, rigging your boat, getting your kayak/paddleboard/shell in the water, etc. Boaters. Thank you! Your communication was much appreciated. We also would like to thank John Rannestad for once again volunteering his time and equipment to work on the road into the club. This task was done with much optimism, in hopes we will be using it this season. Opening the Club Not a day goes by where we are not brainstorming on how to transition to the âNew Normalâ. The mandated COVID protocols are uniquely challenging to PYC, as we are a volunteer organization. To open the club the major considerations that need to be addressed are: health and safety of the membership, club exposure and maintenance of COVID protocols. Once usage and access protocols are put in place, they must be consistently maintained. There will be a lot for the Board to consider at the meeting on June 15th. Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) After consolidating and reviewing the current required guidelines from the State of CT, Gowrie Insurance (our insurance provider) and OSHA, coupled with the fact that Pettipaug Yacht Club isnât even open yet, it was determined, at this time, our small volunteer club can not meet, implement and maintain the mandated protocols while running a SAFE, fun junior program. Reluctantly, the Board decided to cancel the 2020 PSA Junior Program. This decision was not arrived at lightly or with enthusiasm by any of the Board members. Unfortunately, this has also left Colin and our Instructors without the planned income that comes from a summer job. Please consider contacting any of the PSA/PYC Team below if any opportunities come to mind at the office or on the home front. [PYC-News] PYC Status Update - May

[cid:6f12ec44-d946-498d-b2f1-8c7f6006a734] Dear Fellow PYC Members, Last night at the monthly PYC Board Meeting we reviewed the possibility of our volunteer run club opening in the next four weeks. Directives from Federal, State and local leaders as well as, our insurance company needed to be considered. To make the decision, we started by reviewing the COVID-19 Risk Management Guide, put out by Gowrie Group, US Sailingâs insurance partner and our insurer. This guide is the most comprehensive directive to date. (A link is provided below if you are interested in more detail.) We went through, step by step, to determine if we had the ability to comply, adopt, implement and safely enforce the guidelines listed. In addition to the new standard guidelines of 6â social distancing, gatherings no larger than 5 individuals and the required wearing of masks, a few examples of other requirements we would need to meet are: * Thoroughly disinfecting all surfaces of picnic tables before and after each use. * Cleaning common touch points (ie. hoses, hoist buttons, dollies, hand railings, cleats, chairs, docklines, club boats) as recommended and maintaining a checklist detailing the frequency. * Securing access to the facility by monitoring and recording members daily visits. These engineered risk requirements are uniquely challenging to PYC, as we are a volunteer organization. The Board of Governors concluded, unfortunately, for the time being, Pettipaug Yacht Club must remain closed and private boats are not to be brought to the club. This was not easy decision to make. We are all anxious for the club to open and a sense of normalcy to return to our lives. What better way to social distance than go for a sail? Our main concern is everyoneâs health and safety which is maintained by following the current guidelines. We recognize that COVID â 19 has created an extremely fluid, complex situation with data, guidelines and recommendations changing daily. Our hope is to salvage some sort of an active season. Officers will monitor the situation weekly and the Board of Governors will reassess the clubâs position to open at the next Board meeting which is scheduled June 15th. Stay safe. It is the time of year we should be finishing up our spring boat prep to launch or claim a good spot in the field. Instead, due to COVID â 19, we are on hold, working in our yards more than any sailor normally would - waiting. We are all anxious for the club to open and a sense of normalcy to return to our lives. Opening the Club The Board has been in regular communication assessing if, when and how to go about opening the club. Directives from Federal, State and local leaders as well as, our insurance company must be followed. Our main concern is everyoneâs health and safety. Until the Governorâs Executive Order, "Stay Safe, Stay Home", requiring all non-essential businesses and not-for-profit entities to prohibit all in-person functions expires on May 20th the club and the yard must remain closed. (This includes no storage of private boats in the yard.) PYC is not considered an essential business (or a marina). We will review state and local guidelines as they are released. Unfortunately, opening the club will not be as simple as throwing the docks in and raising the flag. We anticipate certain protocols will be required that must be in place as we transition to the âNew Normalâ. Some of these engineered risk requirements will be uniquely challenging to PYC. as we are a volunteer organization. There will be a lot to consider. Things change quickly and often in Corona time. Over the next two weeks, we will update and share information as it becomes available. Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) We are waiting to decide if it will be feasible to run the Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) junior program this year. The CT Office of Early Childhood stated summer programs could start June 29 with specific guidance in place. That guidance is set to be release on May 15th. A decision will be made after reviewing the requirements. Registration is still open. Tuition is fully refundable (minus PayPal fees) if there is no summer program. Those that are registered will get first dibs on any schedule changes. Unfortunately, for the time being, Pettipaug Yacht Club must remain closed and private boats are not to be brought to the club until further notice. Volunteers are still working behind the scenes in hopes of an active season. Some updates worthy of sharing follow. Essex Savings Bank Community Investment Program Thank you to all the PYC/Essex Savings Bank customers who took time to cast a vote for Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) in the annual Essex Savings Bank Community Investment Program. We have been notified that 64 votes were cast for PSA which resulted in a $1,052 donation to the Junior Sailing Program. We really appreciate your support. Meadow Moorings Permit Holders Members who have a permit for a Meadow Mooring (a mooring in front of Pettipaug Yacht Club) need to have them inspected. Pettipaug Junior Saling(PSA) Registration is open for Pettipaug Sailing Academy, PSA. We hope and are planning for a full summer program. A great team is ready to instruct. If the sessions need to be moved around, those sailors that are enrolled will get first dibs to any rescheduling. Fellow PYC Members, As a result of the coronavirus pandemic the clubhouse and grounds will remain closed indefinitely, please take note of the following: * A reminder that the work party scheduled for this Saturday, March 21st is cancelled * Club closure includes use of the grounds, deck, restrooms, crane, grills, docks or boats * Please do not bring your personal boats down to the club We hope that these measures will be short lived, and will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses.
